Working with Ursula Smith Dane Academy has been very enriching for my dancers. Ursula and her team are very professional, talented and very knowledgeable. The environment is warm and inviting and my children love dancing in the shows!
Ursula Smith dance is very unique. She teaches different genres of dance that include African dance. Ursula Smith is very knowledgeable, friendly and work well with all ages. Her staff is is also. Awesome!
My daughter starting taking dance classes at Ursula Smith when she was 10 years old. She'd never studied dance before. I chose Ursula Smith because I was frankly worried that signing up for ballet would one day turn my kiddo into an anorexic bun-head, and was immediately drawn to USD's mission of empowerment and excellence, and the studio's core values of inclusivity and diversity (racial diversity, and also their welcoming stance towards the the full spectrum of body sizes and shapes) in dance. We're now on our second full year with the studio, and it's been AMAZING. I can't quite articulate how lucky I feel to have connected with a dance studio that does so much to celebrate and showcase the talents of the Birmingham community, that introduces new dancers and new audiences to a broad range of European, American, and African dance traditions, and that pushes everyone involved to grow and stretch. Dance classes here (and getting to participate in the showstopping Brown Sugar Nutcracker) has been a fundamentally transformative, confidence- and community-building experience for my daughter. Thank you, USD. I hope more people keeping find you and signing up for classes!
Wonderful studio! Everyone was so kind and so relaxing to be around. Very positive atmosphere. The instructor was wonderful to work with. She helped me to feel comfortable with the new techniques while also making sure i was reaching my full potential with the moves. Will definitely be back for more adult classes!
US Dance is a diamond in the rough. I love that this studio owner Ursula Smith has formed is all about resources, opportunities, real technique, and more. Also having a variety of dance genres that are of traditional and non-traditional genres is truly an asset to the community. She even has her own stage, how awesome is that!
