Food was absolutely excellent. Service was great. There was a really long line when I walked in and the crew had it moving relatively quickly. There was one lady taking care of the entire restaurant's drinks and table clearing and she was doing a better job than I often see a team of people doing. Price was good for the food quality. Turnip greens were great and the lemon. Cake was excellent. Fried chicken was good, cornbread muffins were great, and mash 'n gravy was excellent. Will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area around lunchtime.
Cold cafeteria style food, without a soul. Pretty tasteless. Tastes like everything came out of a can. Almost $30 for 2 people for tiny little portions. The small divided plates make it look like more than you really get. The hushpuppies were balled up cornmeal, nothing more. The fish was dry and needed some seasoning. My first time IS my last time.
Some of the best fried chicken and macaroni and cheese I have ever had. If you know you know, and if you don't... I suggest you find out. I was driving through around lunchtime and I saw a whole bunch of cars, so I figured I would turn around and see what this place was. I am so so glad that I did. The chicken breast was the juiciest fried chicken I have ever had. Perfectly seasoned in my opinion. The pinto beans were good too. I really want to go back any try more. The staff was super friendly also.
My first visit at lunch was just fantastic. I'd heard such great things about this iconic soul food restaurant and they were all true. Pork chops are a special on Thursdays so I made sure to make that my meat. It was fried perfectly and seasoned to perfection. The sides were fresh and so tasty with a special consideration for the turnip greens. They were the best I've ever had! I will be back that is for sure.
I will definitely be back to try something else the fried chicken was very good and most definitely worth the ride up there
