My colleague and I stopped by this lovely bakery on our way back from a celebratory lunch. We were in the mood for some dessert and the baked goods from Cake Baby hit the spot! My coworker is vegan and was looking longingly in the vitrine thinking she couldn't eat any of the items. But actually there were vegan options too, which was a nice surprise. :) I had the (non-vegan) vanilla cupcake, which was wonderfully fluffy and had a nice intense flavor without being too sweet. I ordered a carrot cupcake for my spouse to take home and it took all my self-restraint not to eat that one too since the vanilla was so good! The lady working there kindly offered us some free cookie samples, which was really nice. This is clearly a family run business that puts a lot of heart into their baking. The photos on the wall even show kids eating cupcake and other baked goods. In reading some of the other reviews here, folks need to give a little grace. This place is not an industrial chain bakery with hundreds of employees. I'll definitely be back for more yummy cupcakes!
The customer service is excellent and so are the baked goods. They also have plenty of vegan options fyi. I tried: strawberry cookie, banana pudding cookie, and banana pudding brownie (blondie). All were amazing. Also, in regards to another review about the cookies being hard, I think that's likely user error. The cookies are the perfect texture when you buy them but if you leave them in the little baggie over night like I did, they can get super hard. That is not the fault of the bakery. These cookies are baked fresh daily with no preservatives so proper storage at home is a must. I found a solution by wrapping a damp paper towel around my cookie and nuking it in the microwave for a few seconds. This made it soft again. Next time, I will properly store my cookies in an airtight container. The reviewer who complained probably didn't store theirs right either.
Outstanding!! The cake was so delicious and moist it basically melted in your mouth! I ordered a cake and a dozen assorted cupcakes for a family event. Everyone raved about how good everything was. My personal favorite, red velvet, is simply amazing! I will absolutely order again. I can’t wait to try some of the other flavors. So happy to support another black business!
An absolute treat for the DMV area. Not only were the cookies and cupcakes I got amazing but the atmosphere within itself was extremely warm and welcoming. I'm Active duty and there's a fine line between enjoying a certain quality of life and the realities of staying fit enough to remain that way. So, quality is a huge factor with any baked goods I put in my mouth, and Cake Baby is definitely on the list. The Cake Baby team is an absolute inspiration and has earned a lasting place in my heart and mind for top tier comfort food. I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing the brand grow and thrive. Most disgusting cupcakes I’ve ever had. Red velvet has lots of food coloring (see picture) Chocolate cupcake tasted like something from an expired box. Very disappointed. I wanted to support this family business but this was not what I was expecting at all.
