I’m so happy my husband and I decided to come and try this awesome place! It was our first time and as a WAWN tradition they chose our plates. They take into consideration allergies, recommendations, and likes/dislikes. We loved the food they first picked out for us as it was savory & sweet. We will definitely be coming here again! The place is very kid friendly as they have a designated area for kids to write on the walls with chalk or read!
I was just waking up, pre coffee, so it took me a few sips of their strong coffee to realize that the design of the restaurant is bringing the outside inside. The kitchen and ordering place is painted to look like you are ordering from an actual food truck. The floor is painted green, the seating is picnic tables and the silverware and plates are plastic and paper. There is happy, upbeat music playing and there is a special area that appeals to kids. The menu was challenging for me to understand, but he was great and gave me all the info I needed to make my order. I ended up getting a waffle with blueberries and a side of over medium eggs (without cheese). Wow! So yummy and good. I wish I knew about this place sooner. The only problem is that it is so good, you end up thinking about how good it was after you leave and start planning the next visit.
Loved everything about this experience. It was our first time, so their rule is they pick your food. You take two bites and if you don't like it, return it and then pick whatever you want. I was a bit leary but we were a party of 8 with a pretty picky 10 year old and none of us returned our food! It's a small, family run small type business. Everyone was super friendly and personable. You can ask for markers to write on the walls while you wait. The food was amazing. They made 8 different meals that ran the spectrum from sweet with chocolate and berries to a brunch waffle with chicken and mac n cheese. The chicken was tender and the mac n cheese was delicious. I told them I was diabetic so they made me a delicious low carb waffle and omelette. Highly recommend this place; it's not to be missed on your list of must-do's while you're in Anchorage!!
Can't really comment on the what no, as I'm a vegetarian and all the non waffle items are meat or eggs. The waffles we had were amazing. Mine was the "heaven" with banana, Carmel, and chocolate. My wife's was the dinner, with Nutella. Both were great. Couple people I I teracted with were very friendly. Can't beat dessert for breakfast!
For a first timer get ready to be blown away by the thought that they will prepare something for you and if you don't like it they will make something else. That's a warmth that can't be explained. I ordered a veggie scramble and a Gluten Free waffle. This place handle allergies so well and so fast that it takes a non-wheatie non-meatie like me completely off guard. We took a seat at a picnic table and started to read the writing on the walls. As a wordsmith, I was super inspired to witness the lost art of autographing. So many mic droppy statements by past patrons, I was deeply inspired by a quote by the owner, Derrick Green. It's worth the trip just to read the walls alone if you love words, you can literally stay for hours. I was so inspired that I joined the fun and took the liberty of leaving my mark as well. The food arrived quickly as other guests looked on to see our reaction to our first bite. It was like a community celebration. We were beyond pleased. At first glance, one might think the gluten free waffle was burnt, but it's crispy goodness that good for you. So be patient and savor that first bite and you will be in for a culinary kaleidoscope of flavor. My Aunt & Uncle were pleased with their chicken & waffles and both talked about how tender the chicken was. My Uncle has an aversion to all things healthy so it was awesome to be able to eat in an establishment in which we were all equally elated about the flavor explosion that was happening at the table. The veggie content was so high in the veggie scramble that I was impressed, I could eat it every day for the rest of my life. And I only eat eggs occasionally. Needless to say, I was pleased with my WAWN experience. I would've never expected such culinary excellence tucked away in a lil strip mall. My palette and pocket book were well pleased. P.S. The bathrooms are the cherry on top. Beautiful mural art that will take your breath away.
