Truly a lovely outdoor space to eat (there’s even an outdoor bar which is where I ate dinner). The waitress and waiters were all super friendly and kind - since I was visiting from out of town, they offered thoughtful recommendations on what to do nearby. There is a huge wine list (quality options!) and truly delicious food. I had the salmon entree and the warm bread they serve and make in house is spectacular. I would sincerely recommend to anyone in the area, go check it out!
Any local will tell you this is a loved, well-established restaurant in Columbus. They have a beautiful, large patio, and inside isn't too shabby either. The brunch/lunch menus are solid. Even from the basic items, you can tell they have very skilled chefs. I've had a couple of excellent salads -- smart ingredient combos with plenty texture and flavor contrasts. They've served me a perfectly cooked salmon. I had three courses at dinner once: the cauliflower app was crispy, had a tasty aioli, a little heat, a little sweet -- everything meshed well. The chicken entree plating wowed me before I took a single bite; it had bright flavors and was tender/juicy throughout every piece. Post mortem was an excellent dessert; you can't go wrong combining a warm fudgy brownie with coffee flavored I've cream. Lindey's is a top-tier dining experience, no matter what the occasion!
We made reservations fora Saturday night at 9pm and once we arrived we had the option of seating indoor or outdoor. We opted for indoor since it was pretty muggy that day. The staff was very attentive and our waitress was very personable. The food was great and very large portions. I got the chefs salmon and my boyfriend got the B chicken with a side of mashed potatoes. We don’t normally get dessert but we decided to try the apple bread pudding and the coffee ice cream brownie sundae. They were phenomenal and a great portion.
I chose Lindey's for weekend brunch because I saw that they were nominated for year's best dining experience, best outdoor dining, and best fine dining by Gannett (the Columbus Dispatch). Upon entrance, I discovered it was a nice looking place, with cherry solid wood and polished brass accents. Standard, old world upper crust German Village template. However, the looks and treatment I got, as a party of one, from the staff was not part of the charm. I got a distinct feeling they felt like they were looking at something gross when they looked at me and, as soon as they were done, they rushed off to sanitize their hands. I mean, that may have just been my imagination too but I rarely get that feeling when I eat out (see my other reviews). I don't know; judge for yourselves I guess. My stomach perked up when I saw they had brioche French toast, intermingled with vanilla custard, cinnamon honey butter, a touch of Applewood bacon, and bourbon barreled maple syrup. For the first course I got the angel biscuits - which were nicely served - gooey warmness that quickly melted cinnamon honey butter when you spread it. They tasted as good as they sounded too. Five stars for sure. Midway through the biscuits, though, I was told they were all out of the French toast. I asked how, were they out of bread (?) and was told the dish was very popular and went quickly. I confusingly wondered why they couldn't anticipate the need for more bread if they knew they would go fast. Very disappointed- because that was really the only thing that sounded good to me (I knew I didn't want a lot of breakfast meat, hollandaise sauce, or any seafood and I definitely wanted a hot meal)- I gave the menu a second look. With almost all options eliminated, I ordered the brunch double - a double cheeseburger. I figured, for $20, there was a good chance I wouldn't be sorry. But, it just wasn't my day because I knew almost instantly the sandwich was not worth that price. I ate most of it, got the remaining biscuits to go, paid $38 with tip, and left. To sum up: I might be back but I can't recommend the restaurant at this time.
I just want to shout out our server, Porter, who made our birthday experience exceptionally great. My elderly friend has dementia and he couldn't have been more patient and kind. He treated him with dignity and respect while still accommodating his interesting and unique demands. Our service couldn't have been better. Thanks, Porter! You made our day very special!
