My heart will always call University AME ZION my home church, no matter where I live in this world. It is truly a place where love knows no boundaries, no borders, no divisions. I am a Korean, my wife is Jewish and we were both welcomed from day one as part of a caring family. In fact, my wife and our son were baptized at this blessed place of worship. I would thoroughly encourage anyone thinking about dropping by to take the leap - you won’t regret it.
I’ve bounced around from Church to Church in the last 10 to 20 years and have realized it’s a fantasy to ever expect to find the “perfect Church home”. However, ever since I’ve joined AME University Zion Church, I’ve never looked back. I was so warmly welcomed from day 1 and I’ve rarely attended a Church where Jesus’ command to “love one another” was more evident. I’ve even been invited to join the worship team and it’s been an amazing experience to be a part of. I still need to work on expanding my efforts to fellowship and service, but am excitedly looking for more opportunities as they come, Lord willing

Pastor Kaloma Smith’s sermons are thought-provoking, delivered with sincerity, and provide practical insights for spiritual growth. University's commitment to fostering a strong sense of community is evident through its various ministries and programs, offering many opportunities to connect, serve others, and make a positive impact. It’s a beautiful space and a haven where you can deepen your faith and find a community to support you throughout your spiritual journey. I encourage you to attend one service — online or in person, and you will understand why it’s such a special place for more and many others.
I love University AME Zion church. I love Pastor Kaloma and his leadership of our congregation. The Holy Spirit is vibrant here, the musical worship is powerful, the community is loving, and the weekly sermons are both nourishing and relevant to my life. My two children love the kids ministry. My wife and I are so thankful to call University AME Zion our home.
I moved to San Jose in 2017 and didn’t know many people. I knew I wanted to find not just a church, but a church community. University exceeded my expectations. This church is indeed special. Pastor Kaloma and First Lady Larin have been called by God to create a space and community for believers in the area - and they not only answered the calling, but have also committed to doing it with such love, grace, and humility. I moved back to the east coast last year, and this church is still MY church, and this is still my family.
