Strands’ owner, Shirley, arbitrarily charges exorbitant amounts for hair styling. She intentionally steals from her customers while styling their hair and laughs in your face when you question her about the prices. I visited her shop over 15 years ago and she was doing it then and she continues this way of operating which is unprofessional and highway robbery because we have allowed her to. I am reading current reviews and have spoken with friends who have visited her shop and everyone who has visited her salon has indicated the same problem. Ladies, do NOT give her the pleasure of continuing to steal from us. Go else where to get your hair done at a reasonable and recurring price AND file a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Eventually, the BBB will be aware of a shady business and follow the proper legal actions against Strands.
I totally agree with other reviewer (Amy Gottlieb) way over priced and takes advantage of her customers. My experience some 10 years ago was horrible wash, color and ends trimmed for more than 300.00. The worst part for me is I left her business for 1 year because of the long wait. I tried to to give her another chance, she had improved the wait time she told me thank you for coming back and then at the end of the services she start adding up all these fees and it was over $300. I couldn’t believe it And the location is in a less than middle-class area. It’s just a joke I’ve been to other places paid less than $100 and my hair was absolutely beautiful just as nice if not better than what she can do, Who cares about celebrities she’s done, if she’s done so many celebrities why is she there in Wheaton Maryland?
Buyer beware....I ended up at Strands Hair Studio based on the reviews...I went for a simple haircut and highlights (I literally trimmed two inches - not a complicated style) and was charged $580. Shirley exploits her customers and arbitrarily makes up prices. I was offended and horrified and will never go back! I don't care if Shirley has worked on the rich and famous - no cut or style is worth the money she's charging! Don't waste your time...

Kim W is the best in MD, hands down! I’m always pleased with my hair cut/style. They’ll get you in and out in no time, so your whole day isn’t wasted in the shop. With a welcoming atmosphere and quality service, you’ll be sure to come back!
