Dinner at Harriman was incredible. Appetizers were by far the best part, absolutely fantastic. The best octopus I have ever eaten. Main course was delicious and cooked beautifully. Wine selection was excellent. Dessert was the only thing that left something to be desired. While it looked like art work, it just feel short a bit. Probably just because everything else was fantastic. Would definitely go again, and try some other dishes.
We had our wedding at Salamander and stayed here for two nights. On the wedding, Salamander is a wonderful venue, everybody there works very hard to ensure you have a fantastic wedding. We worked with Alex and she was just wonderful to work with, I can’t thank her enough for making our big day as stress free as it was. On our stay, your experience will be everything you’d expect from a 5 stat hotel. The resort keeps all their employees at a very high standard, and every single person you interact with has the same lovely manner and professionalism. Rooms are beautiful and most have a cute terrace which is kept very clean and usable. Make sure to make a reservation at the spa, and id you do, you can have access to the spa facilities up to two hours before your appointment. Overall, we loved our stay so much we wanted to extend it but unfortunately all the rooms were booked! We will definitely be back here!
The reason for my 3-star review is because 1) the "trails" were not good at all for walking - short, confusing, riddled with horse dung since they share the exact same trails; and 2) the pool is completely inadequate for a resort of this large size. It was a hot summer Saturday and the pool was completely jammed with people. It's tiny. Terrible experience, and I can't help but wonder why this resort - in Virginia - would build such a small pool to accommodate so many guests. Otherwise the room was great, food quite good, and service excellent.
Though the addition of the housing development has marred the pastoral approach, the property has a serene vibe. The food was tasty, and beautifly plated, the cocktails interesting, and our late afternoon server was very well trained. Her recommendations were spot on.
For those who take ratings seriously, this lovely resort gets a 4.3 from me. The food quality and customer service sets it apart and is very close to five star level. However, it’s more like a JW than a Ritz, Four Seasons or Park Hyatt. I do highly recommend a visit though because the people who work there are wonderful. The grounds are beautiful and people there are very diverse and friendly. The location and town is charming and the hotel food was wonderful. One of the gaps is in the lack of space and amenities at the spa, while it is great, there is no cold plunge and the size compared to number of people is limited. Another gap is that the rooms are great in size and house keeping us wonderful but the bed was very uncomfortable and the linens (sheets and towels) are not luxurious. Plus, there were no easy to reach outlets or usb ports near the bed. The main pool was not serviced by staff well nor does it seem to have a food and beverage option. The adult only pool is only for spa clients. And, finally, the alcohol is priced according to the demand of customers rather than the market price of the items. Overall, great experience and this place has great potential! Definitely check it out.
