LUX is in constant violation of the city of Oakland noise abatement ordinance. The City of Oakland has a noise ordinance that prohibits “excessive and annoying noise” between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. OAKLAND, CAL., MUN. CODE §§ 8.18. 010–8.18 All attempts to contact the Owner by phone and email have been unsuccessful. In response to the owner's posted comments about "people shouldn't move into an area with a club in it." It is LUX that is the newcomer in our neighborhood and clearly has no respect for it. As LUX is unwilling to obey the law and simply keep the noise inside after 11pm (We get it....LUX ts a club , nobody expects it to be a library) But get the noise off the street after 11 and show some common courtesy to your neighbors) A formal complaint with CA alcohol licensing commission is being circulated around the neighborhood. LUX can avoid this by simply acting responsibly.
Strike 1: it's currently 1am on a Tuesday morning and they're absolutely blasting music to everybody within a 4 block radius. It's like this place has anti-soundproof walls. If their goal is to give everybody in the hood Havana Syndrome, it's working. Strike 2: it's not even good music! You could get way better dance music at Crybaby, Somar, any other bar on Telegraph, Liege, the taco truck on Webster, any random house party, and the tent of that one guy who hangs out at 13th and Franklin. Strike 3: Somehow they made the worst possible idea of building this new club (I'm counting it as new) in Chinatown. It's across the street from EBMUD. Barhopping doesn't exist here. Telegraph exists. Want drinks by Chinatown? Fort Green and Mad Oak are way better and won't cause your ears to bleed from DJ Mediocrity.
Update: I was able to get the money back after swift action from the owners. They let me know they do not condone this behavior. Thank you for protecting your customers!!! ************Original review below*********** The bouncer outside (with a beanie and beard) scammed me for $20!! He initially told me it was $40 to get in. He then told me to send him $20 on cashapp so I did, thinking this was the cover. Then, I went inside and the lady at the front told me he shouldn't be charging me anything. He saw and came up to us saying that the charge wasn't him and he didn't ask for any money, and tried to start a fight to aggravate me. What a liar. I'm now trying to get a refund for the $20.. he should have been fired on the spot. I wonder how many others he did this to. The name on the cashapp is MJ Butler $eyeslowbro. Beware of this security guard, he's just trying to hustle people he think he can prey on without realizing they will hold him accountable and take him to claims court if he refuses to refund.
First time experience. The night was going well. Had a table upstairs. Purchased 6 bottles over $1000 worth of alcohol, We were upstairs dancing around the pool table & the manager of the night im just assuming. Came up to us told us to get out was extremely rude and extremely aggressive for no reason. A warning was never given just straight off the back was extremely rude and aggressive. I’ve heard negative reviews before but we still gave it a shot for a friends going away night out. Will not come back here.
Yo!! The atmosphere was great! The service was Superior!! The owner was polite, respectful and welcoming to all comers! They kept top shelf alcohol and stock, and on top of that the food was delicious! (Did I mention it was vegan?) Yep, to my surprise, the meat...wasn't meat...and I didn't mind at all. (and I love meat) (said with a big smile on my face) The bar was in a different area than the dance floor, so there was plenty of space, and more than enough room to social distance. All in all, a great time, at a great spot!! I would recommend it to any and everybody. If you get a chance, be sure to check it out.
