Sooo these oxtail were AMAZING. 100% exactly what I needed in my life. Literally turning frowns upside down. Best Haitian cuisine you're going to find probably in all of VA. Definitely worth checking out!
For a while now I’ve been lamenting the fact that we live in a Haitian food desert here in Virginia. The closest Haitian restaurants were at least 200 miles away in each direction. I had to constantly deal with my brother in Florida taunting me with his casual mention of having Haitian takeout. Well finally we have an oasis in Richmond: Lakay Zaz. This isn’t just authentic, it’s elevated. We ordered at the ghost kitchen in Scott’s Addition and had a “picnic” in Byrd Park. I went with the basics, as I do with all new food spots: griot (seasoned grilled pork) diri kole ak pwa (mixed rice and beans) and banan peze (pressed plantains). Everything was perfect. There was even a sauce added that took it all to another level. This chef deserves special recognition (how does that whole Michelin Star thing work?). If you are remotely Caribbean or even know someone that is, you need to try this food spot.
The best Oxtails and Fried pork I ever had…and this says a-lot because its better than any Jamaican spot I’ve been too as well…My new Spot!
Oh my God. I thought I died and went to heaven. I had the fried snapper. It was so fresh and tasty. The flavor just burst in my mouth. The seasoning was on point. I will definitely come back.
I love Haitian food and could not find it anywhere in the Richmond Virginia area! No longer a sad day for me since I found Lakay Zaz !!!
