Visited during “dinner time”. I ordered the jerk chicken dish that came with cabbage, rice and beans, and sweet plantains. Jerk chicken was 10/10. Other dishes was also good but that chicken was the best. Chef was cool and down to earth. Gave me some extra jerk wings on the house. And again they were delicious! Atmosphere was very chill and relaxing. It was pretty empty during the time we went. Music was cool. Hookah was $50 and can be smoked indoors or outdoors. Our waiter was chill as well but she did take a very long time to return to the table especially taking into consideration there was only about 4 10 other people in the whole establishment. Cons: 20% gratuity charged for two people which was about $30. Plus an additional service charge of $7 I believe. Would have never tipped that amount especially since we had to ask to be assisted after being seated for 15 mins and other patrons being assisted before us after coming in after. Drinks are cute but not strong. If you order the blueberry lemon drop be prepared for the glass to be half full. Portion sizes are small. For me and 1 additional person our bill came to $199 - three drinks $17 each, hookah $50, and two meals $25 and idk the price of the other one
It's very difficult for me to write this review because I want to see people win. However, I have to prevent or prepare others from being disappointed, under-serviced and overcharged. I should have read the reviews before going. I wasn't going to write a review but dicided to do so after reading that others had similar experiences. 1. The ambiance was everything. Very nice decor and the music was on point. 2. The Drinks- All drinks are mock tails. We were not advised of this and were wondering why we tasted no liquor. I’m not ok with paying $17 - $20 for a mock tail. 3. They aren’t able to make sunny side up, over medium, or soft scrambled eggs which leads me to believe they are using liquid eggs. Aside from that, 30 minutes after we ordered they advised they only have egg whites. 4. We waited another hour to be served and all of our food was cold. The shrimp and grits were watery. The waffle was hard and cold and they provided cold butter to put on our already cold waffle. 5. At this point I ate my cold $4 for 2 pieces of bacon and sent the waffle back. My other guests were not able to stomach their cold food either. 6. The Bill They over and double charged us for everything. The manager / owner who came out to greet some guests earlier refused to come address our concerns and instead offered to comp most of the bill after several failed attempts to correct the bill. We ended up paying $90 for 2 pieces of bacon and Lord only knows what else. At this point we were over and took the loss. The waiter Dominic was great but not $80 included gratuity great. We tipped him $40 because he was pleasant but he should learn to not serve cold food to diners because he bore the brunt of our complaints when it wasn't totally his fault.
I’ve been here several times last year for brunch & the food was amazing. However I went yesterday & I was disappointed. The ambiance was lacking, there was no music playing at one point & once it was it was drag music that ruins the mood. They were literally out of EVERYTHING. they failed to mention it & brought my food out with a side that was not expected. I wouldn’t have ordered that dish if I would have known in advance. Food was bland, which was not the experience prior. Waiter was unfamiliar with the variety of wines offered. He seemed to be more focused on his friends that were present at the bar than he was with providing adequate services to paying customers. He failed to mentioned the drinks were mock tails. He served chips & salsa as if it was complementary, but it was $14 for very bland guacamole & seemed like canned enchilada sauce for salsa. Dessert seemed like it came from a frozen box when prior it was homemade. The bill was outrageous nearly $300 for the subpar service & less than appetizing food. It’s so sad that the quality has gone down at this black owned establishment especially on a holiday weekend. I want to see this place do well, which is why I’ve supported a number of times. But sadly I won’t be back.
I live down the street and have been wanting to try this place for a while. Positive: The food was Good, Ambiances is honestly what made the place, it’s very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. I will have to go back again to give them another chance because I was highly disappointed today. Negative: I waited 28 minutes at the table after being sat before my waitress came to greet me or even talk to me. The food took another hour, they are unable to do eggs over hard they can only do scrambled, they need more help because service was slow. I don’t understand what the service charge was for, I would’ve like some explanation on that as I didn’t notice it until I was uploading this review.
Let me say the ambiance of this place was amazing. The staff was soooo friendly as soon as you walk in. The music had me singing all night too! I ordered the Rasta Pasta and I do Have to say I was A bit disappointed it didn’t have much flavor that I was expecting. A few of the other people in my party were not satisfied with their food either. I did Have the opportunity To try the lobster Mac & cheese and that is a must get! The sous- chef did come out to speak with us regarding our dinning experience. We did share what we liked, disliked and ways we thought things could improve. Overall great experience I would Come back during brunch to see what that is like.
