Having worked with Mr. Edwards on a number of occasions, I found him to be caring, genuine, sincere, professional, conscientious, and creative. Definitely one of the best clinicians and professionals I have ever met. I feel really lucky to have known Mr. Edwards for all these years, and I wholeheartedly recommend him without reservation. Top notch!!
John is the “go to” for therapist in the Bay Area. His expertise is recognized among peers and he works from a place of integrity.
I don't like giving low reviews, but I recommended someone to see John as a therapist because it was difficult to find a black male therapist in the area. It was the worst mistake and I regret refering someone to see him. I just looked up therapists online and saw John had expertise in blindspotting. The experience for my referred client was not only awful, it affected him to the point that he will not return to therapy again. Client was a young man suffering from major depression and said John yelled at him in the first session because he forgot to bring his paperwork with him. Client was too depressed to have the energy to leave his house and find a printing station, with no easy mode of transportation on such short notice before the appt. I would imagine a therapist would be sensitive to the experiences of a 20 y.o. in the Bay Area who has severe depression symptoms. John collected his $200 in cash and scolded and demeaned a young person already suffering emotionally. I also spoke with John on the phone ahead of time and he was distant, cold, non-responsive, robotic, the opposite of warm, but was hoping he would be good in therapy (based on one online review). I do not recommend this person to anyone and I am writing this review because I do not want any other people of color to try out a therapist and never want to return to therapy again even though they need help. This encounter was not only terrible, it was retraumatizing to my referred client.
John is an excellent therapist. He is a leader among his peers and many of his fellow therapists, myself included, seek him out for guidance.
