I would not recommend this place especially for those with natural hair. I asked for a blow out, straightening, cut, plus styling and the shampoo girl said it’s achievable but I received none of it when I reached the stylist. I asked if I could show the stylist a photo of my inspo and she declined as if she knew what she was doing. She didn’t offer extra services so I can achieve my look nor did she offer recommendations for a hairstyle if she wasn’t able to deliver what I asked for. I also noticed extreme heat damage to my natural hair once my wash day came and it shows that the stylist did not use heat protection. I’ve straightened my natural hair for over ten year and never experienced heat damage like this, now I hair to chop off my hair. I left with a hairstyle I could’ve done myself at home, learning on YouTube is better than this place. If you can’t style natural hair, I suggest advertising that because you’re ruining people’s hair with your negligence.
This by far is the worst experience I have ever had at a salon in my life. Prior to my appointment I called to introduce myself to Karen and let her know that I wanted clip-ins installed, after all this would be my first time visiting the salon. She assured me that whatever I needed to be done she was capable of doing. I had a 11:00 appointment, I finally got in Karen’s chair at 3:30 after watching her complete 2 weave styles. She never acknowledged me or better yet she didn’t even apologized for being triple booked. After washing my hair I asked for my hair to be blown out with a paddle brush with minimal heat. She struggled horribly with completing this task, my hair was still damp at the roots. When I gave her my clips ins and she fumbled and seemed to be confused. She expressed frustration and told me “I gotta do what works best for me”. I told her if it is easier for her she could cut the new clip ins. Just for reference, my hair is medium length and all I wanted was 2 clip ins to be added to my hair for fullness. Welp! This request earned me being asked to leave. I’m the middle her prepping my hair for the clip-ins, she snatched my cape off and said “that’s it, I can’t do this” she didn’t even try to finish the job or refer me to another stylist. This was simply awful this was 8 hours before my flight to LA for my birthday weekend. I p pop left with my hair undone. After sitting in the salon for 4 hours. No Business owner should ever treat a customer this way. Please save your time and money. Don’t go to Natural Roots Salon located at 216 W. Rittenhouse St Philadelphia. Karen Barnes (owner) lacks hair styling ability on the most simplistic level, unable to communicate and meet the needs of her customers, and appears to have continual issues with customers. She often posts about poor encounters with customers on her social pages. I implore her to reconsider her approach or this business won’t last.
It’s sucks because it started out good! I started coming during the pandemic, when business was slow! Karen was very nice and professional. I guess when business is slow you act accordingly!! Now that the restrictions are up and you can have more customers in for service the professionalism goes out the door! The shop has turned into the kind of hair salons you see in a Tyler Perry film Gossipy, thot behaviors. Yeah I’ll take my business elsewhere….
