Absolutely fantastic food and service! We were driving through and found this place. Great southern-style home cooking. And we know, we just moved up here from NW Florida. My wife had the fried chicken, mac-n-cheese, and cabbage. She actually admitted that the fried chicken crust, is better than hers. I had the half rack of ribs, mac-n-cheese, and fries. Fall apart tender ribs, with a sweet tangy barbecue sauce. Baked mac-n-cheese, as God intended, and salty fresh cut fries. And fresh banana pudding for dessert. Delicious! He brought us out a few sauces to try too. The Hennessey sauce should be bottled and sold outright! We'll be back. Thanks for the awesome meal. It tasted like home!
Had my first take out the other night. My half rack ribs were great and it was a huge half rack. Sides, depending on what you get (not many choices), were so so. My husband's plate of fried fish (forgot the type) was excellent, but tiny for the price as were his sides. Overall, we'll eat there again.
Well what can I say…This highly anticipated visit was a complete fail. My cousin and I made a visit as I live within walking distance to this establishment. Firstly, the wait was well over 30+ mins if not more. So we finely get out food and my cousin checks hers (bagged to go) and the fried pork chops were on sight not right. I was still waiting for my food. She didn’t return the chops because we had already waited much too long for the food and we both were very hungry. I finally get mg food after the young lady said they had just received the chicken delivery and had needed to season (lol) and cook it. So we head back to my place in hopes the food was worth the wait. I taste the cabbage first. I knew something was going to be off just by looking at them. I’m from NC and know southern cooking. Baby!!! This was not it!!!! Besides overly peppered; I can’t honestly describe their taste. But yuck comes to mind. My cousins pork chops were beyond dry/over fried. My shrimp were too salty, my fried wings were not seasoned by any means. The mac&cheese was not seasoned, the fries I had were overly cooked and the oil must’ve been old. The cornbread muffin was dense AF!! I mean heavy like a mini brick! It was flavorless and just awful!! I do not understand how the cook could have been bold enough to serve up that food! Like what in the actual hell was he/she/they thinking!!!! See pics because I can’t make this up folks. I spent $30 for my meal of fries, 8 wings, 6 shrimp and cabbage. We had to ultimately throw our individual meals away and take a loss on the money we’d spent. Nothing was salvageable. All these 4 star comments are deceiving.
I’m live in Virginia & was in Hartford for a marathon. I Googled places to eat and came across this place. Read a few reviews & decided it try it. When we got there, it was empty except for two customers. Great! Place our orders and sat down. I had the chicken dinner with mac & cheese and greens. My friend had the fried fish with the same sides. Our food was good, fresh, and hot. Spoke briefly with the owner about the name of the restaurant & how long he’s been in business. Glad we made the choice to try out this establishment.
Really good southern style food. The boneless wings are nice and crunchy and the bbq sauce is very good. The collard greens were meaty and so savory and good. Definitely a pleasant surprise of a place and I would go back for more.
