We were blown away by the food. Came here for a birthday lunch for my partner who misses southern food (don't have any good places where we live now) and were so happy we chose this place. Great portion sizes too, wish we had come for dinner instead so we could have ate more then just waddled back to the hotel. Service was pretty good, though we were sat away from most other diners so we didn't have someone come by too often.
I'd go back. Great place for a date night near the National Mall. We tried the steak salad, shrimp and grits, brussel sprouts, and the side fried chicken. Everything was excellent. Portions were just right. I also ordered a cocktail, which ended up about $133 with gratuity automatically added for you. There was live jazz music on Wednesday night. Atmosphere was upscale. I'd leave the kids at home. We were able to get a reservation day of at mid week.
Fantastic food and service! We did make a reservation, so I'm unsure about walk ups. Drinks were so good -- I ordered a Peach Martini 🍑 and my mom ordered a Kansas City Shuffle -- bourbon and grapefruit juice. Both were very refreshing and I felt like I could have been on a porch swing somewhere and not at a work-related conference over a holiday weekend! We ordered Deviled Shrimp and the Shrimp Grits. Both were flavored so well, Shrimp were HUGE, and the crab in the Deviled Shrimp was not like anything we'd ever had (we're from Idaho...crab doesn't come that fresh). The Bread Pudding was over the top amazing. So flavorful -- not soggy -- perfect consistency! Fresh strawberry topping with creamy vanilla ice cream. Imagine the best recipe you've ever had and ramp it up 10 points...that's this bread pudding. Service was on-point! Our waitress was there checking in on our meal at just-the-right intervals.
We were trying to find a very nice and upscale restaurant to go to, and by the reviews we thought this was the type of place, when we walked in it was quite different… The restaurant is decent, but it is not an upscale classy place. unfortunately, it seemed kind of ghetto when we got there. We were definitely overdressed in a suit and tie and a dress. There were guys there in jeans that were sagging past their bottoms and hoodie sweatshirts and reeked of weed at the table next to us, from the looks of many other patrons it did not seem the restaurant had any type of dress code. The service was decent. The drinks were strong. the fried green tomatoes were a little too tart so we did not eat them. That may have just been our taste. The stuffed shrimp dish was actually very good. It was pretty flavorful, especially the spinach and it was cooked very well. The cornbread that they bring out at the beginning was really good and sweet. As far as food and service they get four stars.
I came here not expecting 6 course of food. However the portions were small I loved the steak and omlete and the waffles. Live jazz music was great and nice ambiance although for the price of $70 starting I wish that included one complimentary mimosa. For unlimited mimosa was additional $30. Also the tax and service fee is pretty steep in DC not fully including waitress tip.
