My friend and I visited Taste 222 for the first time yesterday and it didn’t disappoint. I loved the ambiance and the old school r&b music. I ordered the Kale salad and added Chicken, I liked the sweetness of the Cranberries in the salad, because Kale is usually really strong, but this salad wasn’t. First time eating Salmon Nicoise, didn’t know that the green beans were supposed to be cold, but it’s a salad and I was unaware. For my cocktail had a drink called “Office Hours”. My friend was extremely pleased with her food!!! She had a Cobb Salad with the cornbread croutons, she loved the croutons. Her Shrimp & Grits was good too. She ordered a chocolate cake to go.

this place was SO GOOD! it's mostly a lunch place i think but we popped in for a light dinner and we could still order from the lunch menu and the "bites" on the happy hour menu were amazing and the perfect size since i wasn't too hungry! empanadas, fries, macaroni, kale salad- everything was so good. the server was super polite and the ATMOSPHERE it was AMAZING! so cute and pretty in here, love it! our food was also delivered on a cute little robot who said for us to enjoy our food as it scootered away! it was the cutest thing ever and i'd never seen it before! overall 10/10 also not the best pictures because i devoured everything too quickly

Yesterday was my first time visiting this establishment. I happened to stumble on it from a google search. Unfortunately, I missed Chicago Restaurant Week but wanted to invite my colleagues to share a culinary experience at a black-owned restaurant in celebration of Black History Month. To my delight, this restaurant was exceptional. The decor was beautiful, warm, and inviting. We were met by a wonderful hostess and a very friendly purple-haired server. I ordered fried catfish which was served with sweet potato fries and cole slaw. Now, I don't usually eat scavenger fish, but I felt I needed to experience their preparation and report back to my friends who indulge. I was pleasantly surprised. The fish was tender, flaky, with a crispy coating, and not overly seasoned. My colleagues ordered shrimp and grits and the battered chicken sandwich. We are all very pleased. I also loved the open/see-thru kitchen which allowed us to experience the back-of-the-house happenings. The icing on the cake was the Peanut Butter Mini Pie, which one of my colleagues and I had them pack to go. OMGoodness! My first choice was caramel cake, as I'm a creature habit, but decided to try something new and was not disappointed. It was peanut buttery heaven nestled on a dark chocolate cookie base and lightly drizzled with caramel. Overall, I would describe the menu as elevated southern comfort food. I was very satisfied. Thank you for a lovely experience.

The interior decoration is probably the pinnacle of Taste 222. The staff were nice, accepted the cake we had to be brought to the table uncut - although this is apparently contrary to their policy. The catfish was mediocre, the steak was much better (recommended). Lamb loin was delicious and the Brussels sprout appetizer very tasty. The communication with the server wasn’t very easy but didn’t cause any severe problem. It’s nice that they have a coat closet. Comparing the quality, size and price of the food I can’t convince myself to give them a 5/5; they were good at best!
