It tells me to describe my experience in this little section box. I will do my best. It was like a flavor explosion in my mouth. The pork hock just melted off the bone. The greens were tender and moist. The fried okra, oh my gosh, the outside was nice and crisp and the inside was firm and not mushy. And those black eyed peas and rice.... I think my soul left my body. I'm pretty sure my soul went back over to this place to stay there. 🤩 My significant other had the mile jerk chicken. Even though it was mild it had such a beautiful kick to it. It just fell off the bone. I honestly don't remember what else he got because I really didn't care 🫣😬. I was too busy enjoying my own food. ☺️☺️I just remember him telling me he really enjoyed it Anywho, this restaurant keeps getting better and better. And I'm so sorry I don't go as often as I should. Their prices are very reasonable. And the workers and owners are very friendly. Anyway, I hope this review helps someone
I stopped by from out of town was recommended to go here so I tried . I order a dinner , smothered chicken ,spicy greens cornbread dressing , and Mac and cheese also a passion fruit lemonade Y’all can do much better ! This food was horrible the food was so salty !! the greens tasted burnt and weren’t spicy at all the dressing was really sweet like a bunch of sugar was added 🤢 and no flavor what so ever in the Mac and cheese also the smothered chicken was so salty I felt my blood pressure going up I would not recommend as a first time customer I was very disappointed and wanted my money back paid $25 for disappointment 😒 lastly the lemonade was the best thing popping
Amazing soul food near Illinois Beach State Park. There's a wide variety of chicken (fried, jerk), pork, meatloaf, fish. The jerk chicken was the best we've had outside of Jamaica. There are tons of side dishes to choose from too - great mac n cheese, fried okra, greenbeans, fried mushrooms, mashed potatoes. I highly recommend. The employees were so friendly and funny. Just be aware that dishes are made to order, so it takes some time. But well worth the wait!
Stopped in for our 22nd Wedding Anniversary for lunch. Everyone was just Happy, the cook was singing and dancing a bit while cooking (Loved the energy). Gave us a little side dish to have our son try (picky eater). The ride home was hard, smelling the food was torture. Finally got home and the Food was DELICIOUS!!. None of us could finish our meals and my son actually likes the side dish. We will definitely be coming back soon.
While food wasn't horrible I was disappointed both times I went there. The first time I got the smothered chicken and the chicken was fried (in old oil and I've worked long enough in the food industry to know when the fry oil has not been changed as often as it should be) and gravy thrown on top. Very disappointing. Next time I tried the smothered pork chops and it was the same thing and both were a little excessive on the salt. This being said I will say that the portions are generous and the staff is friendly.
