I was excited to go here, and yet I never imagined this would be what I’d earnestly considered the best food I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I sat at the bar out of habit and because I was alone, and I’m so glad I did because the bartender is excellent. He has put together the best menu, and I loved hearing him tell me about how he has envisioned the relationship between the owners’ concepts of Jewish and African American heritages with the flavors, ingredients, and palates available in Richmond, VA. He is not the first bartender, so the menu is evolving to reflect a new combination of tastes to bring to life spirits reflected in the bold names that the owners give the drinks from Black, Jewish, and Black Jewish texts and traditions. I had a drink at almost every opportunity, as I was texting everyone I know to brag I was at JewFro and report the cocktail titles to ask for advice for how to choose. I started with gin for the summer, The Golem 2.0. With my appetizer, I couldn’t resist summoning the prophet any longer and order Elijah’s Ascension. The video is attached to my review. Incredible. It’s just the right amount of smoky, and the drink is still chilled. Bartender suggested the Tortoise with the Pretty Daughter as the most interesting drink on the list, so I couldn’t pass up. I closed with a taste of a new concoction he’s working on, and I won’t spoil anything, but I’m excited for what’s next. I’ll be back for sure. The menu has appetizers and mains for vegans, pescatarians, and meat eaters alike. Embedded in Richmond’s Southern barbecue tradition, the menu’s meat dishes are connected to dynamic Black, African America, and African practices of smoking meat. The staff are clearly most enthusiastic about many of these flavors and what’s still to come. I was drawn to many of the Moroccan flavors, including carrots and salmon. I couldn’t pass up the jollof Palestinian couscous as a side, and neither should you. To be honest, I can’t wait to try to reproduce it at home. The plantains are as good as they come.

Recently visited this place. The concept and menu were very intriguing and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing. Great flavors. Comfort food. We had the challah bread and lamb hummus for appetizers. Spreads were great and the hummus was very flavorful. We had the whole fried black bass which was a big fish and delicious. We also ordered the zatar beef tenderloin which was perfectly cooked to medium rare. I ordered the Song of the Sea cocktail (pineapple infused mezcal) which was refreshing and a beautiful purple color. The dessert was a grilled nectarine with lavender yogurt and mint. Everyone was so good. Definitely recommend.

I would highly recommend anyone give JewFro a try! I had the best hummus I’ve ever tasted here and the fish was fantastic! The reason I’m giving 4 stars is because I did not enjoy the dessert (spiced chocolate cake). However, everything else was delicious and I can’t wait to come back to try something new!

Loved JewFro. The liver and onions are bomb af, definitely our favorite item we got. My fiance got the gnocchi, and it was fantastic as well. The Chermoula for the Challah Bread was very good, I wanted a bottle of it for myself at home.

The daughter's baby shower was very nice. Friendly, on top of serving and didn't have to wait for items to be replaced on the dinner line. The staff is awesome.
