Edit: Thanks to the company for sharing some more details of their offering! Definitely worth giving another shot, even if it's just the occasional treat. A little varied opinion. We've lived nearby and I had come across this place when searching "bakery", but initially didn't think of it as it's not a walk-in/retail location. We ordered a few of the jars. Now they are quite small. I'd compare them to quite a small cupcake. The cake and flavors were quite good. Depending on the jar, the texture of the cake was a bit different. The tres leches was expectedly quite moist. The red velvet was a bit of a middle ground. The chocolate peanut butter was the driest, but not bad. The cake flavors were distinct, with the cream cheese icing seeming closer to the same across all three. I think the downside is for the size, they're a little pricey. Each jar is around $6, and I feel like at many bakeries, you can get at least a medium sized cupcake, slice of cake, or pie, in the $4-6 range. I also understand that a retail storefront isn't necessarily a sustainable business option for everyone, but having to order through a delivery service does tack on extra cost to the items themselves.
I had the opportunity to have a chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream icing on top. The cupcake was on the small side and rather dry. The icing was at least and an inch and a half high. The icing tasted like flavored butter...kid you not!. I was hoping for something really wonderful. I was quite disappointed. The service was fine.
I ordered my cake online. It was very easy and I even got a discount for ordering online! When I arrived to pick up my cake, I was deceived by the small, trendy, storefront. The cake was beautiful and exactly as I had seen it online (I got the vanilla with butter cream frosting and strawberries inside)! It tasted delicious and got rave reviews from my friends. I know where I'm getting my next cake from!
The cupcakes were really good!! They were like really fluffy and moist and they were very thick yet they were not dense and heavy. Really good cupcakes, I had a red velvet but they also had unique different kinds like strawberry lemonade.
All I had from here was a cupcake that was cold, small, and not very satisfying. There's a reason this cake store has no wait for cupcakes: there are many better alternative in DC. I went with 2 friends in the morning and we all tried different flavors. When we asked why it was cold and hard, the lady said they had to refrigerate them from the day before for safety concerns... I thought cupcakes were supposed to be fresh?!? Who tells their customers that they are eating day old cupcakes?!? Anyways, they were a little too skimpy on the frosting and the cake wasn't moist at all. My friends got theirs microwaved and said it still wasn't very good. I don't know about waiting an hour for cupcakes, but avoid this one and go to Baked and Wired or Georgetown Cupcake instead. I'm also thinking about trying Crumbs :)
