Place was highly recommended however I feel a little let down when we went in, place is a little dated and could use an updated with out changing the overall fell cause it feels good. We had shrimp & grits, fish, mash and collard greens were OK but not what you expect when you think of soul food. Very little flavor if im being honest. Overall I wanted to give a better rating but I was not impressed, I won’t write them off totally cause everyone has a bad day but I will def be trying agin..
3.9 on a good day! Adequate trained staff with more people in the kitchen, and this place could probably be 5 stars! The food is good, not going to lie, but you will WAIT at least 15/20 minutes to order and another hour before you get it. So, if you don't mind waiting, give it a try!
I truly wanted to give a better rating but I was not impressed. The atmosphere could use an upgrade. The service was OK, they were very nice and accommodating but staff needs to stop being loud. Their conversations could be heard and were not for the restaurant. The food was OK and I mean just ok. First of all its served in a take out tray. Yes a take out tray, even though we dined in. 🤔 Secondly, I could taste that the chicken was cooked in burned grease, my cabbage, rice and gravy had no flavor; the corn bread was OK though I think it was store bought. 😬 The liver and onions were OK but not what you expect when you think of soul food. Very little flavor. So for me Bowman's is a no. I don't recommend this place at all. But just so you know they were quite busy with takeout orders. I guess that's why it took nearly 45 minutes to get our food. So if you have time to waste waiting for bland food give them a try.
The lady didn't even speak just asked if we were dining in or takeout. Her demeanor was just rude. We sat at an open table and were told to sit on their bench because the tables are sanitized... It's how she said it that was the issue. They just looked like they didn't want to be there. The waitress was nice. The food was nasty and we threw it all away. Paid for mostly store bought items like the sweet potato pie and potato salad oh and the cornbread. Not sure how they got such good reviews??? But never again!!!!
Ordered ribs half slab it was good but the only thing that threw me off was the back the membrane fatty part was still there. No cornbread was in my box it was supposed to be, greens was a lil salty and the Mac and cheese was okay as well.
