Heard about this place from a friend of mine and decided to check it out with the wife. At first upon reading the reviews we weren't very enthused. But reviews are not always 100% accurate, not only was the food great and very piping hot, the place was exquisitely clean. We decided to come out and catch some comedy and have some dinner. We both got a bowl of chicken noodle soup and split a wing dinner. Our waitress Chanel made us feel very comfortable and was attentive to our needs. The only reason I'm giving a four instead of a five is it was a bit drafty in there, the only thing I would ask them to do is maybe turn up the heat a bit. Other than that was a very pleasant experience and would recommend it to anyone else.
Reviewing the location in the Lakeside Mall food court. It's good! I ordered the wings, with steamed cabbage and coleslaw as sides. It also comes with cornbread. All of it tastes just as good as it smells! Maurice is nice and definitely a hard worker, seems to be back there on his own. It's unfortunate this place doesn't get more business, but if you ever come to Lakeside, this is a must-stop! I'm looking forward to seeing the walk-in Lakeside location open up in September.
We ordered takeout at the restaurant. The staff were nice and professional. It was quick to make our order and the food was hot. It did take 30 minutes, but they told us this and had it promptly at the time specified. Of course since this is not fast food, we happily waited that amount of time. So worth the wait. The food well seasoned and a great portion. We also had Faygo floats 😍 brought me back to my childhood. I'd say the only downside is the size of the dining room. Once people realize this place is here, good luck getting a table. Also Thursday is comedy night. I gotta make sure I go experience that!
The atmosphere what's wonderful the food was tasty but it was cold. Our waitress was new and that was the issue. She had that waited before and she had a table of 12 women. We were not told there was going to be a cover charge for the band when they came in we were there before the band. I was disappointed there wasn't a vegan option on the menu. I hope this restaurant can survive the pandemic I would love to see what he has done since my last visit. The owner of the restaurant is really trying to make a difference. He listened to our complaints and took action.
At The Soul of Detroit, I had the most delicious supper. I ate the mac n' cheese, candied yams, and giant shrimp! The shrimp had great flavor and was FRESH! The mac n cheese was delicious, and the yams were just the right amount of sweet.
