The food was delicious. Ordered the fried chicken, turkey wings, yellow rice, Mac n cheese, collard greens and potato salad, none of which disappointed. We came with a large group with young children and the restaurant was very accommodating. Great service and great food!
Did a web search for soul food near me and was happy to find this restaurant. Farm to Soul and something else about it drew me in. I was visiting from Philly, my son from NYC and cousin, a Newark native also visiting easily found parking. We were greeted as we came in the door, received prompt and courteous service, food was reasonably priced, they had adequate seating and clean tables, the food was lightly seasoned and tasted healthy but also gives a nudge that I should feel guilty about trying most of the menu, and lastly I was pleasantly surprised they had turkey wings..Mac, corn bread were the major pluses. I even enjoyed the potato salad. Two minor suggestions would be to have coasters as the moisture from the glasses leave puddles on the wooden table which wets napkins before you use them and also to try different potatoes as the potato salad while tasty was heading toward the end of best eaten by date.
This was my mom and I first time dining here and I can speak for both of us when I say we were VERY impressed and will be coming back the next time we’re in town. The food, the service, the cleanliness, the presentation of food, the overall atmosphere was absolutely fantastic! Kawana & Kirah were so great and attentive to us first timers & made sure to check on us multiple times even when the place got busy. Their dedication to ensuring that every customer has a great experience speaks volumes. Will for sure recommend Cornbread Soul to any & everyone!!
This was my first time visiting Cornbread restaurant in Newark. The first thing I noticed is that I really didn't smell the aroma of Southern cooking. The food was served in a cafeteria style, with the fish being cooked upon request. I ordered the catfish and yams, we also ordered whiting and cabbage. The best part of the meal was the cornbread, the fish was okay, could have been fried a little more and the yams and cabbage didn't have much seasoning. The one thing that I was excited to find in New Jersey was sweet tea it was good.
I ordered takeout online and was pleasantly surprised with the food. The fried chicken was moist and delicious. Even the white meat was moist. I loved the mac and cheese and collard greens. They were both very flavorful. I ordered the potato salad but it wasn't cold so I didn't enjoy it. I also ordered the apple cobbler and wasn't a fan. But I would definitely return!
