Tried this out for the first time this past week and loved it! I wasn't sure what to think when I thought of a hybrid of Swedish and Ethiopian food but the flavors and food selection were wonderful. The bread basket is amazing and well-paired with the tomato chutney, hummus, and fermented honey butter. Also really loved the cured salmon starter as well as the snapper entree because there were so many complex flavors! Also the banana tiramisu was great! Great ambience and good service.
Absolutely incredible experience!! From the moment you walk in you receive top notch service which makes for a simplely beautiful dining experience. The Chefs table offers a front row seat to the precision and detail that goes into every dish. I cannot say it enough it is such an amazing experience. Not knowing what to expect from a Swedish Ethiopian fusion restaurant our server Darius walked us through the menu suggesting options that paired exceptionally well together. By far our favorite bites of the night were the; Banana Leaf Snapper, the ribeye, the crab toast and the tuna tartare. The Black Mermaid sizzle drink was a funny unique beverage that I doubt I could ever replicate. I can't wait to be back in NY to dine here again.
The BEST experience and delicious food! From the beginning entering the atmosphere, excellent customer service, compliments from Chef Abdullahi by giving us a complimentary appetizer and waiter kicking us off with birthday cocktails! MUST visit and try the taste of Ethiopian take on seafood!
Amazing dinner! At first I wasn’t sure how Swedish and Ethiopian food would pair but all the dishes were curated super well and had elements of each that went well together. To start we got the Ocean salad, tuna tartare, swediopian, and the blue corn bread. I loved the creative use of injera in the ocean salad and tuna tartare, and the butter for the corn bread was heavenly. For entrees, we got the banana leaf snapper, which was okay, and the havatini, which was INCREDIBLE. The butter uni sauce was delicious I could’ve had it as a drink. Side of yucca fries were just okay - texture was off on some pieces and were hard to chew. Finally for desserts we got the fennel cookie crunch and the bunna & banana, which were both interesting. They have a great bar with creative cocktails, and the vibes are immaculate. Overall recommended dishes: tuna tartare, corn bread, havatini
Food was great, but the service was horrendous. We were a party of 8 doing their chefs selected tasting menu. When we asked the server what was on the menu for us, she kept repeating that it was a tasting menu but couldn’t explain what the dishes were or even how many courses. I understand that it’s chefs choice, but I would expect some sort of day of printed menu or at the very least the server should be able to talk us through what to expect. It took 45 minutes to get our first drinks, which felt like forever, but then it was clear the server had no clue which drink was which. We were left to play a guessing game of tasting them and passing them around the table. After almost an hour of us looking around, very confused, and hungry wondering when we’d get our first course, a few plates of biscuits came out. Although they were delicious, it should not have taken nearly an hour to get bread. There were a number of other mishaps with the service throughout our dinner. It seems like they need a lot more training for their waitstaff and the timing needs improvement. I typically value a restaurant’s food more than service, but having made the reservation for our group I was left disappointed and embarrassed.
