I really enjoyed this small quaint restaurant. The waitress was down to earth and inviting the hostess as well. The good came really quick, and it was tasty. I'm not a fan of diced tomatoes in my collards, but I managed. The fish was fried perfectly, and mom seemed to enjoy her meatloaf. She got 3 pieces. I had the fried fish and shrimp creole, and it did not disappoint. It came with one piece of fish, but it was plenty for me.
I was in Charlotte for The American Legion National Convention and there seemed to be a buzz about Mert's. I couldn't make it over there until the day that I was leaving. It was worth the wait. I had what I call the "countrified surf and turf", which is a fried catfish filet and fried chicken breast quarter. My sides were green beans and Mac/cheese. All tasted like they were made at home by someone with generations of passed on experience. The atmosphere was colorful and rustic and added to experience. I knew I was in an authentic space when a wait called out to a customer with the question "did you get your fried green tomatoes yet, baby?".
Every time we come here, itβs always a good experience. Itβs also always busy when weβve gone but never have to wait too long. The staff is always friendly and they give great suggestions. The soul rolls and fried green tomatoes are a must try in my opinion.
Had a new server very friendly. Had not tried the food and being first time a little disappointing when asking what to get. The fried green tomatoes were awesome. Crispy and the remoloude sauce awesome. Cornbread awesome. Fried chicken good, green beans ok. Meat loaf moist we thought avg. Mac and cheese was good. Atmosphere was awesome.
I got the dining experience of a lifetime at ππππ'π in Charlotte! First soul food restaurant in NC I was told. The service was wonderful and the food was awesome. I ordered a sampler with soul roll, chicken, and salmon croquettes. I also ordered ribs, greens macaroni, and a tiger woods βοΈ π§ ice tea and lemonade. Canβt wait to return to try other dishes
