A nice place in Camp North. Both inside and outside tables are available. Not many tables though, so reservations are highly recommended. Frog legs are the most impressive one. It’s fried and carefully flavored. Mussels are not super fresh, but the bread is fluffy and soft. Catfish (as entree) is good as well. Appetizers are more of the same size as entree. We ordered drinks but nobody brought them to the table. We ended up finishing most of the food so had to cancel them.
I was really excited to visit Leah & Louise on a recent trip to Charlotte. The night before, we had the pleasure of visiting Restaurant Constance, and hot off the heels of that incredible experience, Leah & Louise really fell short. Even though we had a reservation, we waited 15 minutes for a part of the communal table to be cleared for us. The entire restaurant was very small and cramped, and the communal table that sits in the middle of the dining room was the default option for diners. I'm personally not a fan of these close shared dining tables as I like relative privacy in conversation. We started off with Leah's Cabbage, which I would absolutely come back for (or probably order to-go). It's slow roasted cabbage in a heavenly pork neck bisque served with decadent sweet bread. Delightful. After our shared cabbage plate, we sat for over an hour waiting for our dinner. It was tight, cramped, and loud, and we just kept watching the pass as dishes we ordered went to other diners. Our server apologized again and again, but nothing was done to solve the problem. The 1/4 a Brick Chicken I had was dry and had a strange taste, but my husband’s ragu dish was really flavorful and had some nice textures. Lastly, I wasn’t a fan of the 23% service charge added on top of tip. I’ve seen the owner’s generic response to this issue, usually bypassing some glaring service issues to quickly explain that this is a new way of doing things. None of the restaurants in New York, Charleston, or Portland that I’ve visited charge an additional 23% service fee on top of tipping. I personally felt bad for our wait staff as I’ve worked in the service industry, and felt for her having to explain this charge to each table, letting them know this was not her tip for the night.
Wow! This place is incredible. We celebrated our anniversary tonight and they made it so special for us with a little card signed by all of the staff. It felt so personal. The food was another level. We ordered the cabbage which was our absolute favorite. We will never forget it. We also ordered the mussels which had the most amazing flavor. I could have drank the broth. Then we finished we the lamb ragu bucatini which also left us amazed. Drinks were great too. I ordered a mocktail because I’m pregnant and they just asked me what my flavor profile was and they nailed it. The service, the atmosphere, and the creative menu make this place so special. What a little gem!
The roll-up and Leah's cabbage are amazing!! We also had the catfish. It was too spicy, and my husband and sister are both highly tolerant of spice. Be aware. The river chips are out of this world good! Especially with the candied pepper garnish on top, delicious 😋
The food was Devine! Service and atmosphere was great. We will definitely be back with friends. The mud island was so good the 1/4 a brick chicken was to die for and to top is off the it’s like buttah dessert the best I’ve ever had. We were definitely in foodie heaven. The cabbage and chicken skins was amazing we took an order to go as well. The nuts and fruit drink was so good, uncle nearest should be proud!
