Went there with high expectations after reading all the comments, but the food was average. The fries were good, but the burger could be bigger and better. The staff was really good and gelpful. Overall, it was a decent experience
Great burgers. And several types of burgers. I experienced the best sweet potato fires ever. Comes with brown sugar topping—skip the topping g to enjoy the fries. Be sure to know what size fries you’re getting. Large fries is a meal!! On my places to stop when I’m in chapel Hill again
Wow. Eating a Melly Mel with Cheerwine brought me straight back to undergrad with Al’s being a weekly indulgence back then. The taste and quality have not changed. The staff is wonderful too. Melly Mel isn’t fried anymore though, which makes me a little sad. If you have a pup in the car, don’t worry about stopping by. Al’s is very dog friendly with various spots to enjoy the burgers outside. There’s a reason why Al’s is a Chapel Hill staple- it’s the one place I recommend to people visiting from out of town.
The burger is on the small side for a working man's appetite but it was delicious and the order of fries was huge! I didn't see a combination option and it came out to be expensive hamburger fries and a sake was over $20 which is a little more than I hoped to spend for a quick lunch, they have nice sitting inside and outside. Nothing special about the service every one was friendly. The chocolate milkshake was just right, not too thick and tasty.
