Previously I went to Glitz N Glam Hair Studio to get a relaxer and my hair treated & a trim. Mind you I arrived as a first -time customer. One of the stylists whom from what I believe worked a higher position to run the shop. My hair is naturally coarse and dry. When I went in I told them that, then I showed my hair and she talked about how horrible of a condition it was in. Although I could’ve combed it prior to my appointment, I heard good things about the workers at the shop and wanted to see what she could do. She conversed with the other shop workers and friends about how she should have taken a before and after photo of my hair and compared my hair to another clients hair, yet saying my hair was worse. I know my hair well and practice hair care for my natural hair grade , but this was a test. She relaxed, conditioned, and straightened my hair well along with a trim. The issue here is the lack of professionalism. What she did was very unprofessional and inappropriate to gossip and talk negatively about a client in front of them. Most of all she compared me to another client whom possibly had a similar hair grade as me. If we already knew of each other and she wanted to talk privately to me about the importance of caring for my hair that would have been more acceptable. Her behavior exhibited was of an amateur, and far from courteous. She only got a tip out of my courtesy because she very did well with making my hair bone straight and trimming my dead ends. Technically I didn’t have to tip them at all. Their poor conduct won’t stop me from practicing good integrity and character. She exhibited inexpert verbal traits in the salon and there are some but not all workers in the shop reflect similar inexpert behavior such as this in the shop. If a client of another race or social class came in (not black) to pay for their hair services , I do not believe they would have spoken or treated them the same way they spoke to or treated me. Secondly, their shop did not look fully developed on the inside. It was a small space with a couple of sinks and hair dryers. They had a station where they have their products to do hair. Long story short the outside looked more presentable than the inside. Their sign on the front attracts the people’s attention. The structure of the shop is not that welcoming inside unless you are used to partially constructed small shops with low grade facilities. No offense, Its just not a fully comforting environment for me. I do not know if the salon resides at that same location on Verona Road or not. After another unfortunate experience of horrible black unprofessionalism, until they improve the structure of their beautician establishment, stop being rude and focus more on the clients needs instead of pointing out and outwardly judging their physical flaws, they are not recommended under any circumstances.Regardless of their ghetto disrespectful ways, this does not stop me from seeking to support other potential black-owned businesses.
