My company hired Chef Dawn to come to the house we were renting for a company retreat. The process was seamless from beginning to end. Chef Dawn and her staff arrived right on time to set up the surf & turf, appetizers, and dessert we ordered and got right to work. The best way I can describe it as a fine dining service in the comfort of home. Our leadership team was incredibly impressed at both the quality of the food and the professionalism of the team.
We ordered 7 party platters that were advertised as feeding 20 people for each platter, and we paid over 900 dollars. We were all shocked when the order was delivered. I will place the picture here - feel free to judge for yourself. The deli trays alone were 100 dollars, but we could have literally gone to Harris Teeter and bought packaged meat and cheese and made this platter for 30 bucks. It literally looks like it was from the grocery store.
Full disclosure that I’m an “in-law”, but none the less I’m a life-long finicky bland eater now in my 50’s. I simply have to leave this review after what I experienced eating chef Dawn’s cooking for four days. The agreement was to “just try it.” In every case, everything I don’t like was done so amazingly well that I loved it all. The tenderloin cut with my fork, the rock crab was both moist and flaky, the ahi tuna had a gentle AND firm cooked surface yet seemingly melted in my mouth without needing to chew and the Southern low country shrimp over grits with Louisiana Cajun seasoning was an exciting spicy event in the mouth but with no uncomfortable burn. I don’t like spicy but I enjoyed every forkful until I was past full. Anyone passing up an opportunity to have Dawn’s Kitchen cater their family gathering, special event meal, or business event is missing out on a meal that will reinforce the most positive memories about that social gathering. You don’t need to believe or trust me... “just try it” and judge for yourself if you decide to become another of Dawn’s repeat customers. :)
Dawn is top notch, hands down! Following covid OBX has become more and more traveled too and finding restaurants out and about are difficult with long wait times. Most homes in OBX already have great views, so why not bring a great meal into your home instead!? Her food is delicious and she creates a memory by connecting a moment with a purpose. Look no further in the greater OBX area. This is something everyone should consider when deciding on having a beautiful family meal. Dawn, thank you for your warm hospitality and good cooking, we’ll be sure to schedule in the future!
SOOO good. Dawn was flexible in creating custom menus for a large group, vegans, meat eaters, and other special requests. She showed up on time, cooked, served us and made us feel welcome. The kitchen ended up cleaner than when she started. It's a special experience. Get the portobello veggie stacks and chocolate cake dessert!!!
