Stayed up the road from here had no clue about thos place or its history. Stopped by on the day we were leaving New Market and ended up being here for over 3 hours. The museum had a lot of interesting items and displays. The movie they played was informative and even the boys were interested in everything. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. The little souvenir shop was responsibly priced. A great bonus spot while I was in Virginia.
We were cruising down the road with time on our hands so when we saw the sign we decided to go. Not all random stops are worth it but this was. I was most amused by the LOVE sculpture found out front of a war museum. We watched the film which I would highly recommend for its overview of what happened on the site of this farmland battlefield. The collection of artifacts and reading panels in the two story gallery and art in the halls were both informative and decorative. For the true historian following the outside markers on the battlefield might be of importance. I walked away with conformation that war is an ugly activity and although it may be true that there are heroes iand a winner there are many many losers
I have been here many times. I love this little area. Great place to chill out, learn some war history and take pics with friends and family. Museum is not too expensive to visit.
Very informative museum with all the information needed for the Battle at New Market. The VMI Cadet working there was very nice and a pleasure to talk with.
A great stop on I 81 to get some history on one of the worst conflicts in American History. I recommend any travels to stop at this location to remember the cost for severe disagreements and the bloodshed that followed.
